Bachelor of Emergency Response & Risk Management, accelerated programme

The Bachelor, Diploma & Advanced Diploma Level Programme in Emergency Response & Risk Management are geared to individuals who want to position themselves for success in a public safety or related career. Why do a Bachelor of ERRM?

Prospective emergency services students include:

  • Those who have little or no professional public safety experience, but plan to pursue a career in emergency services administration

  • Public safety professionals, including police officers, EMTs and active and veteran military members, who seek education to expand or hone their knowledge and skills and position themselves for career advancement

  • Professionals in related fields who want to help their organization with emergency preparedness or make a career change

  • Undergraduates working toward a bachelor’s degree in a related subject, e.g., public health, nursing and environmental sciences, who want to complete a minor or second major in a related discipline

Aaron Cignarale is an emergency preparedness specialist who have a wealth of experience running training and during COVID19 has seen his preparedness activities bare fruit. From medication, to vaccines, to earthquake, terrorism and active shooter situations, if you are interested in responding to times to crisis, Aaron’s interview will be highly valuable.

Study Pathway – Oil & Gas major

Students may enrol into the Bachelor of Emergency Response & Risk Management directly with an IELTS score of 6 or equivalent and suitable work experience. Should a student successfully complete the first year of the Bachelor programme but discontinue they may exit with the Diploma (L4) in Emergency Response & Risk Management. Students who successfully complete the first two years of the Bachelor programme and discontinue their studies, may exit the programme with an Advanced Diploma (L5) in Emergency Response & Risk Management. Additionally, students may enrol into the Level 4 Diploma in Emergency Response & Risk Management directly and proceed to the Level 5 Advanced Diploma once the Level 4 programme is completed as individual programmes of study, i.e. without enrolling into the Bachelor programme.

Who is this programme for?

This international qualification is established in the USA in partnership with the Texas A&M University System through the TEEX extension service (UARD is a Cooperative Learning Center), the globally recognised leader in Emergency Management. Graduates may pursue higher qualifications through our Texas A&M University System articulation agreement. This programme is also accredited at Level 6 (bachelor degree) in the United Kingdom by NOCN & One Awards, the leading end-point assessment organisation for OfQual and QAA.

Graduates of the Accelerated Bachelor in Emergency Response & Risk Management will receive certification from both Texas A&M in the USA and NOCN in the UK, making this a highly valuable internationally recognised qualification.

Course Schedule

Orientation & first class is February 18th 2021, with Todd De Voe, MPA, CEM, Associate Professor of Emergency Management.

This accelerated programme is delivered weekly on Thursday nights 7PM – 830PM (Pacific Time) via Google Meet. All assessments and course materials are facilitated in Google Classroom, allowing anywhere-anytime access. Students have 18-months to complete this accelerated programme (instructional classes are nine months with a further nine months for completion of the project and submission of the portfolio, with support from the UARD team).

Entry Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate prior academic success and industry participation in the following ways:
 

  1. Minimum two-year Associate Degree from a recognised institution, or equivalent

  2. Minimum two-years emergency response or risk management involvement in a voluntary, community or employment role

Recognition of Prior Learning for Acceptance

Our students come to us from a variety of industries. For example, you may have worked or be working in the Oil & Gas sector and have completed OPITO standard assessments. You may also have served in the Red Cross or in the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s deployment units and gained significant experience or certifications. These can be included in your application to enter the Accelerated Bachelor programme.
 

Additionally, you may have worked in a fire safety organisation and completed a hazardous materials or fire rescue programme with TEEX Texas A&M’s Extension Service. These highly rigorous, quality training certifications may also be included in your application to enter the Accelerated Bachelor programme.
 

Your professional experiences may included accredited training with the International Well Control Forum, the National Fire Protection Association or the International Institute and hold a IFE Level 5 Diploma in Fire Engineering Design or IFE Level 5 Award in Fire Investigation: Theory and Practice, for example.

Academic Credit & Fees Schedule

The full Bachelor of Emergency Response & Risk Management is a 3 to 4 year, 360-credit point programme with tuition fees of $25,000. The Accelerated Bachelor is a 96-credit programme, for students with extensive industry experience, prior academic success and a record of prior learning in ERRM. UARD has received substantial sponsorship and support from our accrediting bodies and industry experts. This has enabled AP Todd De Voe to create a highly attractive programme and tuition commitment.
 

The Accelerated Bachelor is a 96-credit programme, completed after an application process that considers your previous AA degree, recognition of prior learning and industry certifications. Course fees may be paid per-course or in full at the start of the programme. The programme fees if paid in full is $6000. The per-course fees (slightly higher) are as follows:
 

  • 6CDV-Community Vulnerability and Resilience 12 credits $800

  • Research Ethics 12 credits $800

  • 6DSI-Social Issues 12 credits $800

  • 5IAP-Incident Action Planning 12 credits $800

  • Research Skills 12 credits $800
